Milad Malki, an businessman from Qamishli, migrated to Sweden 30 years ago, but has kept tight relations with Syria. When the war escalated and the media of the West started to demonize the regime of Syria, Milad and other “Syrian patriots” established a group called “Hay’at al-difa7 7an Suriya” (The board in defense of Syria). They have manifested their sympathy and support to the Damascus government in various ways, and also shipped medical equipments to the country.
His message to the Kurdish rulers of PYD/YPG after the American withdrawal is that they return to “their true ally in Damascus and trust the Syrian Army to protect them against the common enemy, Turkey”, he says. He also urges President Assad to make sure that the new constitution will be all through secular. As to the economic recovery of the country he thinks that in ten years Syria will be a rich country, because of the gas and oil resources in the Mediterranean, its agricultural potential etc. He personally has been investing in the parts of the country under the control of the government during the years of war, which he now thinks is at its end. Unfortunately he could not make any investments in his hometown Qamishli or other parts of Gozarto because the uncertain political situation the Kurdish PYD created with “all its abuses against other citizens not in line with their separatistic line”. He also believes that many Assyrians who fled the war are going to return and build up Qamishli.
