The Syrian Orthodox Church of St. Mary in Diyarbakir is not in any danger by the ongoing project to restore the old city to its antiquity. The church is already one of the oldest in the world, 1750 years old. However, two other churches are heavily damaged by last years war between the Turkish army and the PKK; Mar Petyon Chaldean church and Surp Giragos Armenian church. A tomb in Mar Peyton, which belongs to a well known bishop is opened, probably looted. But we are still not allowed to inspect the damages, Father Yusuf Akbulut says.
