Mr. Kaldo Oghana, the spokesman of the Assyrian Democratic Movement, Zawaa, tells about the meeting Zawaa attended yesterday (June 8, 2017) with the KRG leadership about the referendum on September 25 on independence from Iraq. He says Zawaa attended the meeting in order to present the Assyrian demands, especially the Nineveh Plains not to be included. According to Mr. Oghanna, Massoud Barzani said that only Kirkuk is included when it comes to the so called disputed areas, because the situation in the province of Ninawa is complicated.
Our participation is conditioned with preserving and secure the ethnical rights of the Assyrians, Mr. Oghanna says. He is also asked about what confidence the Assyrians have to Kurdish promises in case of an independent Kurdish state will be established, what the religious denomination “The Christians” means to our ethnic identity, and other issues.
