Father Shamun Demir Bagandi, a Syrian Orthodox priest in Delbrück, Germany, held this speech about the pioneers of the Assyrian national identity, while commemorating Naum Faiq in Gütersloh on February 5, 2017. He is pointing out especially the importance of bishop Yuhanna Dolabani as an Assyrian patriot and the faithful saint of the last century within the Syrian Orthodox Church. When bishop Dolabani ordained priests for the Assyrian Church of the East without he never put a condition to change their church affiliation. He wanted them to serve within their own church, because he thought of the Assyrian people as a Nation and not like other sectarian church leaders. “Then who am I to follow any divisive teachings when I have such a saint as role model? Father Bagandi asks rhetorically.
