The Iraqi army is now moving towards the Assyrian towns of Telesqof, Bakquba, Sharafia and finally Alqosh in northern Nineveh Plains. The army is trying to oust the last remains of Peshmerga at the so called disputed areas, whereas the Peshmerga, according to our local sources on the ground, deliberatly want to provoke clashes, in order to draw the sympathy of the world to the Kurds. By letting the army attack the points of Peshmerga the Kurds hope to show the federal forces as aggressive against Christian Assyrians, whereby the Kurds can claim being the “defenders of the Christians”. In reality the Assyrians feel released the day they are no longer under occupation by KDP Peshmerga or any other Kurdish force.
